Introduction
Workpapers Sorted introduces a series of powerful enhancements designed to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
With improved journal management capabilities, new compliance job types (BAS, IAS, and FBT), auto-save filters, and the ability to reorder supporting documents, users can now streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and maintain better control over financial data and reporting.
- These updates ensure a more seamless and productive experience within the platform.
Managing Journals in Workpapers Sorted
Workpapers Sorted now allows users to efficiently manage journals without leaving the platform. You can edit, copy, reverse, or void journals, along with leveraging enhanced data entry features.
Editing and Managing Journals
You can perform the following actions directly within Workpapers Sorted:
- Edit existing journals
- Copy journals for reuse
- Reverse journals
- Void journals when required
These actions eliminate the need for external navigation and streamline your workflow.
Narration Auto-Population
- Narration is now automatically populated at the row level.
- This reduces manual input and ensures consistency across journal entries.
Entering Dates
The system now supports flexible date entry formats. You can manually input dates using:
- DD-MM-YYYY → e.g., 30-06-2025
- DD/MM/YYYY → e.g., 30/6/2025
- DD.MM.YYYY → e.g., 30.6.2025
The system will automatically interpret and standardise the format.
Using Calculations in Debit/Credit Fields
Debit/Credit: You can also do normal calculations in the debit/credit column using (+) , (-) , (*) or (/).
The system will automatically calculate and populate the final value.
Syncing with Xero
Journals created in Workpapers Sorted are synced with Xero.
Note: If a journal is modified in Xero after posting:
- Perform a Xero Data Refresh
- The updated journal will reflect in Workpapers Sorted
Limitation: Tax-Exclusive Journals
- We are currently unable to edit a posted manual journal with an "Amount are" Tax Exclusive.
- Tax Exclusive is currently not supported when editing posted journals due to an Xero API limitation.
Note: Our team is actively working on a resolution in collaboration with Xero.
BAS, IAS and FBT Job Types
Value Proposition
With these new job types, users can create, organise, and track BAS, IAS, and FBT jobs alongside existing workflows. This ensures a more streamlined process, better visibility of job progress, and consistent management of all tasks related to compliance, in one place.
Job Type
BAS (Business Activity Statement)
When selecting BAS as the job type, users can choose from multiple reporting periods including Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly. This flexibility allows accountants to align the job setup with the client’s reporting obligations.
IAS (Instalment Activity Statement)
For IAS jobs, users can select Monthly or Quarterly reporting periods. This supports businesses that are required to report and pay instalments more frequently.
FBT (Fringe Benefits Tax)
FBT jobs are set up with a Yearly reporting period, in line with standard FBT compliance requirements. The due date is typically aligned with the FBT financial year.
Auto-Save Filters
Save the Filter
With this update, any changes you make, such as applying filters, selecting or deselecting columns, and adjusting page settings, are saved instantly.
There is no need to manually click a save button, as your preferences are captured automatically the moment you make a selection.
- When you refresh the page or navigate away and return later, your view will be restored exactly as you left it, which allows you to seamlessly continue your work without needing to reapply filters or reconfigure your layout.
- This feature is particularly useful when working with large datasets or customised views, as it reduces repetitive actions and improves overall productivity.
- If at any point you wish to revert to the system’s default view, you can select View Default from the top ribbon bar. Hence, this gives you the flexibility to switch between personalised and default layouts as needed.
Available Filters
Client name
Quickly locate jobs by filtering based on specific client names, making it easier to focus on relevant engagements.
Entity Type
Filter jobs by entity classification, helping you organise and manage work based on entity structure.
Group Name
View jobs associated with a particular group, allowing better management of related clients under a single group structure.
Financial Year
Filter jobs by financial year to focus on a particular reporting period and maintain better control over compliance timelines.
Column Customisation
In addition to filters, users can customise visible columns on both the Client List and within Job (Financial Report Data) to better align the workspace with their workflow requirements. These column preferences are automatically saved, ensuring that your customised view is consistently maintained across sessions without any manual action.

Reordering Supporting Documents
Supporting documents attached to an account can now be reordered directly from the financial report screen. Previously, documents were displayed only in the order they were uploaded, with no option to change the sequence.
This enhancement allows users to organise documents as needed.
What's changed
Drag and drop to reorder documents against any account line on the P&L, Balance Sheet, or Trial Balance screen
Where the Order is Applied
Once reordered, the document sequence will be consistently reflected across:
Report Package Bookmarks
Documents will appear in the same order within the generated report package
Workpaper Hyperlinks
Hyperlinked documents in workpapers will follow the defined sequence
Key Benefits
- Better control over document presentation
- Improved navigation in reports and workpapers
- No need to re-upload documents to change the order
